Campaign Strategizing

I must admit that I found myself mystified by Sen. McCain's long wait in selecting a vice-presidential running mate, but now his timing seems more obvious. It was an amazing move to announce his selection the day after the Democractic convention, and just before the Labor Day weekend. He managed to maintain the old rule about not doing anything during the opponents' convention, while still managing to steal their thunder.

I anticipate that this maneuver will gain a great deal of favor in years to come, and will be often copied. Four years hence, we'll probably see running mates selected either just before or just after the political convention. Probably, however, never again will we ever again experience the same sort of surprise that we experienced in hearing about Sen. McCain's choice of Gov. Palin as his running mate.

Who says politics is boring?
