Hypocrisy

The hypocrisy involved in the criticisms of Gov. Palin is becoming obvious. And I'm not only referring to the commentators who for years have lauded free love, but now are stamping a scarlet letter on Gov. Palin's daughter. The criticisms of the governor's family life have revealed deep wells of hypocrisy that frankly puzzle me.

The critics are telling us that we ought to be pro-choice: unless one chooses life for a child who is inconvenient or crippled. We are told that we ought to respect people who are different: unless the person who is different is our own unborn child with Down's syndrome, in which case we are allowed to kill the different person. We are told that love is beautiful whenever and however it happens: unless it happens to involve marriage between one man and one woman.

Do not these critics believe that Gov. Palin and her daughter have the right to choose life for their children? Do not these critics believe that Trig Palin, the young child with Down's syndrome, is a person who ought to be respected? Do not the critics believe that Bristol Palin can get married if she and Levi Johnston wish it?

Sadly, I think I see where the hypocrisy is coming from. In short, it comes from humans trying to win an election. Apparently, critics are savaging Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston in the hope of souring conservatives on Gov. Sarah Palin. I suppose the critics imagine that conservatives will suffer amnesia about the critics' agenda, which is opposite to that of conservative views. I suppose these attacks are also made in the hope that the nation forgets that the critics of Gov. Palin are the defenders of Pres. Clinton.

I'm not trying to make light of the Palin family life. I'm simply trying to point out that the greatest sin of our modern age is being committed by the critics against Gov. Palin. Her deeply held belief, that the lives of her family members are important and deserve respect, is not being respected or tolerated by her critics. I suppose we can look forward to many more deeply held beliefs not being tolerated if we allow hypocrisy to win the election.
