Thread of the Tale of Populism and Stimuli

I lost the thread of the story somewhere. I thought the story was supposed to be that just when the nation was in the grip of evil right-wing heirs of earth-destroying big oil companies, along came a gentle populist and his team of left-wing legislators, who was swept into office to deliver the people from a bad economy.

Instead, it seems more like once elected, we ended up getting a stimulus bill that favored giant coporations and influential lobbyists, does little one can think of for most ordinary workers, and will probably cost so much that taxes may well go up for the ordinary workers.

How did it come to this? How did we reach the point where not even the mainstream media can claim that the stimulus bill is the answer to all our problems? How did we come to think that spending, by anyone and everyone, is the key to having more money?

I certainly don't know. I guess I'll just have to wait until the mainstream media can come up with another thread to spin into the intricate tapestry of story they've been creating since the presidential and legislative campaigns last summer. Then their thread will surely supply my answers and my understanding of what is going on - won't it?
