Ten Years After 9/11

A decade has now passed since the day of the terrible attacks. We should all thank God that another major terrorist attack has not occurred on our shores - and we should remember that this is not for lack of terrorists trying. Many individual terrorists, such as the shoe and Christmas bombers, have been caught in the midst of an attack since that day. Other terrorists, like the treacherous officer at Fort Hood, were only stopped after they had a chance to sow mayhem and death. During all this time, still others who believe in the horrifying ideas of radical Islam have killed many of our soldiers, and the terrorists have also killed innocent Muslims in foreign lands. The terrorists hope to cow all people, everywhere, into giving in to their demands, and submitting to their murderous intent.

Today, let's take a moment to remember those who died on 9/11, and let us remember those who have since died trying to keep us safe. Let us also be grateful for our intelligence community, and our leaders in all levels of government, who have done their best to keep us safe, and have largely succeeded. Let's be thankful towards those soldiers, and their families who work to keep life going in their absence, an absence which is sometimes, sadly permanent. Let's be glad for our stewards and stewardesses and sky marshals and ordinary passengers, who in these strange and troubled times, have often risen to the occasion and prevented further destruction. Let's commemorate the bravery of villagers in far-off lands who decided to reject the evil terrorists who murdered their children, and continue to stand up for what is right. Finally, let us all keep safe what so many others have kept safe - this land of liberty, and the lives of innocents here and elsewhere.
