Who Gives Thanks?

One of the things that I've found most disappointing about the "Occupy Wall Street" movement and its siblings is that there isn't a hint of gratitude for any of the things that the protestors already have, nor is there any suggestion that if their demands were to be met, that they would express any thankfulness. This stands in stark contrast to the Pilgrims, or our nation during the Civil War, who gave thanks for what they had. Those are both times in which people were not only materially poorer than now, but death was a reality that had claimed many fellows and would claim more. They still were able to give thanks for what they had; so why is it that "Occupy Wall Street" doesn't seem to?

Let us not be hypocritical; let us be sure to be thankful ourselves today. We should be especially thankful to those members of the armed services who gave their lives, and who are serving or have served far from home, in order that we may be free.
