Blessed with Martin Luther King, Jr.

I think that our nation was blessed to have Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a crucial time in our history. There have been plenty of voices in the past, and sadly still today, advocating hatred and violence as a solution to real problems and wrongs and evil. Although Dr. King recognized the evil, he responded to it in a Christian fashion. The Christian fashion is uncompromising and challenging, but also with humility and respect, invites others to have their ways changed by God, and thus become part of the solution. Because he and so many others were determined to do things in a way honoring God, they perservered in spite of horrifying, murderous violence, and succeeded in reversing roughly a century of precedent. Let's celebrate Dr. King and those who followed him, and then let's follow their example - instead of calling for violence, let's invite others to do things God's way and cause change in that way.
